New Aggregate Washing Plant helps to combat
Environmental Impact
In early 2006, Mark Davies (managing director), identified a landfill diversion opportunity to dispose of its waste arising. After exhaustive research into the possibilities of recycling construction and demolition waste into sand and single sized aggregates, a decision was made to invest £2.8 million into an aggregate washing plant. The chosen company to develop and build this new plant was CDE Ireland, as the quality of their plant was exceptional and they demonstrated vast knowledge of the quarrying industry.
This facility, namely Derwen Aggregates, is the first in Wales to offer washed sustainable aggregates which include general building sand, concrete sand, 6mm - 40mm aggregates, granular sub-base type one and low permeability clay, which all meet appropriate British and European standards.
The majority of the feedstock originates from greenfield excavations and rock over burden; these materials are normally disposed of at a landfill site. We provide an alternative route for disposal, which contributes towards minimizing waste to landfill, and meeting ever increasing landfill diversion targets.
